Philip II, father of Alexander the Great, gained control of Macedon in 359 BC.  Ca. 356 BC he acquired the gold mines of Mt. Pangaeum, married Olympias, and his horse was victorious at Olympia.  By 337 he had become hegemon over all Greece, he was murdered the following year at Aigai by Pausanias.  SNG ANS 935  Price  £35
