Acmoneia Modern day name is Ahatkoy in the Uşak province of Turkey. The city was situated on a tributary of the river Sindrus, about six miles west of Diocleia(see map page). AEZANIS Located on the high plains/ plateaus of North/West Phrygia, near the sources of the Rhyndacus. Unlike the coastal Mediterranean climate it tended to be drier and the weather more variable. It was good for grain and grazing and not particularly orientated towards high density population. However this was a important city known early in the 2nd century as Phrygia Epictetus. The district comprised the cities of Cadi, Aezanis, Cotiaeum, Dorylaeam, Midaeum, Accilaeum and Nakoleia. There are 2 coins of Augustus , however one is of proconsul Potitus Messala and has his portrait on the obverse so it wont be included here. We can assume on a date of 24B.C. as this was the date of the proconsul of Messala and corresponds well to the early portrait stlye of Augustus. The only writing on this coin is ΕΖΕΑΝΙΤΩΝ which is the late Hellenistic form for Aezanis. After Augustus the more usual form of ΑΙΖΑΝΙΤΩΝ is used.
obv; bare head left. rev; EZEANITΩN- Zeus of Aezanis standing left, holding eagle and scepter; monogram before (21mm, 7.16g) RPC 3066
